Saturday Night Fever: Fifty Years of Disco Music with John Lyons In-Person

Dr. John F. Lyons examines the history of disco music, from its origins in the clubs of New York City to its status as a global phenomenon after the release of the movie Saturday Night Fever in 1977. Soon everybody, from Paul McCartney to the Rolling Stones, from Stevie Wonder to Abba, were making disco records and everyone, from grandmas to grandpas, from US President Jimmy Carter to Russian leader Boris Yeltsin were disco dancing. Not everyone was so pleased with the phenomenon as a backlash against disco ensued. By the early 80s the disco fever had broken but the joyful music continues to send people to the dance floor today.
